Other characters on the show included Diamond's girlfriend, Helen, played by Virginia Gregg, Diamond's friend and former partner on the police force, Lt. Walt Levinson, played by Edgley, and Wilms Herbert in the the role of the bumbling police sergeant, Otis.

The TV series of Richard Diamond, Private Detective was broadcast on CBS from 1957 to 1960. It starred David Janssen in the lead role. In season three Mary Tyler Moore played Sam, the telephone operator. The only part of her anatomy ever seen on the show was her legs. The name of the actress that played Sam was not revealed until after she left the show but her sexy voice and great looking legs made her a star.
